Am thrilled to reveal the stunning new cover for Binocular, the double bill of horror novellas published by Nick Sidhu and myself. Check it out!

The genius responsible is Julian Dicken at Moonshake Design, whose commissions include the cover for the acclaimed counterculture history A Hero For High Times by Ian Marchant.

To say Nick and I are thrilled with it is an understatement. We’d had ambitions to upgrade the cover since publishing the book in 2019, but working with an artist of Julian’s calibre has exceeded our wildest expectations.

The brief we gave Julian wasn’t easy. We wanted the artwork to imply the horror genre, but avoid the cliched tropes of mainstream horror fiction. We also wanted it to convey a sense of the surreal and darkly humorous, and evoke a contemporary vibe removed from the Paperbacks From Hell era of horror fiction (as much as we love that). Oh, and we didn’t want it to include any actual binoculars.

Imho Julian’s solution to those constraints is ingenious, oblique, hugely unsettling and astoundingly stylish. Thanks Julian!
